Katelyn and Corey drove all the way down from Columbus, Ohio to Asheville for their Max Patch elopement with us. Just a little back story:
I’ve known Katelyn for a few years now. I shot a portrait session back for her when I first picked up a camera. About a year or two later, they found out that they were pregnant and I photographed their maternity photos and their pregnancy announcement as well! Right after Corey proposed, Katelyn contacted me and booked their wedding with me. A few months later, they ended up cancelling their wedding contract to buy the home they had been living in for a few years.
I had a dress designer reach out to me and asked if she could hire me to take photos of one of her gorgeous hand made pieces. I jumped right at that opportunity and decided to offer it to a couple that wanted to elope, but that maybe didn’t have a dress yet. When Katelyn applied, I knew it was fate. Their wedding would’ve been the weekend before their elopement here. So, Katelyn and Corey won the free elopement collection. With my dear friend Ali with Anarie Brides offering hair and makeup, and myself as photography and Chris with videography. It was going to be perfect.
Fast forward to the week before their elopement… I still hadn’t received the dress. YES! The whole reason I offered a free elopement… the dress! I emailed the designer and she agreed it would still be there in time. and then two days before the elopement, I had a freak out. THE DRESS STILL HADN’T ARRIVED. I reached out to her again and she gave me 10+ reasons of why the dress was NOT going to be there. Holy. smokes. Not only did Katelyn not have a dress… but her husband and his uncle already built the alter. Their family already planned on coming down from Ohio. WHAT A DISASTER.
Katelyn and I scrambled looking for dresses. Every dress we wanted wouldn’t be here in time. We had the amazing Asheville bridal boutique “Wildflower Bridal” offer to work with us and she’s hands down… the best! The best bridal boutique in Asheville! But we couldn’t make everyone’s schedules work with each other. Between Katelyn, Corey, and her family driving 6 hours down from Ohio, and hair and makeup, bridal dress appointment, and the ceremony start time. It just wouldn’t work. So I went through dresses in my closest and realized I had the EXACT dress Katelyn was looking at on Lulu’s! I bought it for myself off of Poshmark and I couldn’t make that dress fit even if I dieted for 6 months! haha! So Katelyn finally had a dress. Nightmare over, right?
Not. As soon as we pulled into the Max Patch parking lot, it started storming! They say “Rain on your wedding day brings good luck,” right? I don’t know who “they” are… but it’s annoying (: We waited out the rain for about 40 minutes and then decided to just go for it. As soon as everyone came out of the tree-line, the rain stopped. It was amazing. The weather was cool, not scolding hot like a normal late June wedding day. And the patch was almost bare from tourists. Our disaster of a day turned into a miracle day. And at the end, Katelyn and Corey were married on the top of a mountain with their son and families by their sides.
Okay, I think that’s enough story for you. Check out their awesome story, and don’t forget to stop by their awesome vendors and show them love! including Wildflower Bridal for trying to save our asses.
